Product Description

CD-ROM and Book. On 18 May 1969 NASA launched the last in a series of daring test flights of the Apollo hardware. Apollo 10 would follow swiftly on the heels of the successful flight of Apollo 9. The goal was to send a second crew into deep space but this time with the fully equipped hardware that would be required for a lunar landing. Veteran astronauts Commander Tom Stafford and Lunar Module Pilot Gene Cernan were to fly tantalisingly close to the barren lunar surface - a mere eight nautical miles, while Command Module Pilot John Young would be required to conduct the first rendezvous in lunar orbit to ensure the safe return of his crew mates. This book finally puts in one place four of the most important documents from this auspicious flight, The Apollo 10 Press Kit, The Apollo 10 Pre-Launch Mission Operation Report, The Apollo 10 Post Launch Mission Operation Report and The Apollo 10 Post Launch Mission Operation Report Supplement. For the interest of collectors, students or historians alike Apollo 10 - The NASA Mission Reports follows the final test flight of Apollo through a series of astonishing technological accomplishments including the accurate measurement of distortions in the moon's gravitational field which would finally pave the way for man's first landing on another world. New to this edition: the Technical Debriefing. Includes 80 pages of new information.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for UK Apollo space buffs . The 1st lunar LEM use ., 7 Nov 1999
By Chris Bittlestone (Torquay ,, Devon , United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Anyone in the UK who remembers the basics of their Apollo space history will have stood in much the same position as I have at the Science Museum and wondered at thoughts which must have gone through the minds of Stafford , Cernan and Young as they followed in th illustrious footsteps of Apollo 8 and became the first users of the LEM in the lunar environment .

This book shows the contemporary detail of the grit + determination which hallmarked this historic precursor to the pinnacle to Apollo , the landing of Apollo 11.

This book (+the others so far in this series) allow us a brief but illuminating backglance to the unfolding of real history .

The CD attached to the book is an addded bonus + gives a real echo upon the spirit of the decade in which the fantastic became achievable .

This book + the others released so far re-knidle the ethos of Apollo .

Lets hope that the truely significant scientific achievements of Apollo 15 , 16 + 17 (as well as the consolidations of the interim missions )will be as well set out for us in next year`s release , which I for one thoroughly look forward to !

3.0 out of 5 stars Operational background information on Apollo 10., 24 Sep 1999
By A Customer
This book presents a wealth of technical detail on on the Apollo 10 mission in the form of four NASA reports. The Apollo 10 Press Kit and Mission Operation Report Apollo 10 (AS-505) Mission (pre-launch) cover similar areas. Post Launch Mission Operation Reports No1 and No2 were written on the day of splashdown and three weeks later respectively, and are interesting to compare. It also contains an excellent CD-ROM. Overall it is an invaluable source of archive information about this mission. However no-one should expect to find the whole story of Apollo 10 here. Having read Apollo 11 Volume 2 by the same author, I do question his selection of reports. A crew debrief or comments would have been far more useful than the Press Kit. Finally a nit pick. The caption to one of the photographs between pages 96 and 97 would certainly be argued with by T. Mattingly, and possibly F.Haise !

5.0 out of 5 stars A must reference for ANY Space History Buff ..., 7 Jul 1999
By A Customer
The APOLLO MISSION REPORTS published by Apogee Books, are an excellent source for Space History buffs. Each book includes press kits from the flight, pre and post mission summaries, and a fabulous bonus CDROM which has the official NASA mission report movies lasting about 17-29 minutes. The CD also has some GREAT color and black and white photographs.

I recommend them as a great resource!

They can be purchased at any bookstore or amazon.com
