Review

"Apogee must be congratulated on the continued high standard of these books..." -- Spaceflight, January 2001.

Product Description

CD-ROM and Book. The Legacy of the Apollo programme is rich in outstanding discoveries and accomplishments but none more so than the first fully equipped lunar landing mission. Apollo 15 was the first moon-landing to venture into the treacherous terrain of a lunar mountain range. After a perfect pin-point landing astronauts David Scoff and James Irwin explored the mysterious Hadley Rule with the benefit of their electric lunar rover. Scoff and Irwin had under-gone extensive training in the science of geology and were to find the oldest rock ever to be brought back from the moon. The so-called 'Genesis' rock would answer many of man's age-old questions about the origins of the moon. In this book, the remarkable fourth lunar landing is explained in great detail with documents rarely seen by the public. CD-ROM includes 2500 still photographs, many Quick Time VRs and EVA footage. Book and CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine review of the first real science mission, 5 Dec 2001
By Chris Bittlestone (Torquay ,, Devon , United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I`ll keep this review short as most people buying a Godwin Apollo book will know the format by now!

This mission, not least because of the use of the rover, was the first where the experience of the previous missions really paid off in allowing Scott and Irwin to do lots of real science during there stay, rather than worrying about the basic concepts of simply getting and staying on the moon, let alone working and living on it. That`s not to say that the gee-whizz factor is missing. What the landing may have lacked by no longer being a first was, in my view, more than outweighed by the sheer, spectacular beauty and awe of the Hadley site, undoubtedly the most breathtaking of all the six varied landing areas were man`s off-planet experience began!

It`s a shame that Godwin couldn`t have twisted Dave Scott`s arm to give an interview for the CD, (as he has often done with the other volumes with the likes of Buzz Aldrin, Wally Schirra, etc) but perhaps that will be in the second volume for this mission? I hope so.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Usual Robert Godwin does a good job!, 26 Oct 2001
By S. Plumpton (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having purchased the other books in this series I was looking forward to the Apollo 15 edition. I was not disapointed. This book is an excellent reference point for the space enthusiast. I think that the crew debrief notes are good, but would have liked to have seen a more detailed index on the side of the pages, something that has been included in the other books. The CD ROM is again excellent, and it has been a pleasure to at last have seen the footage that many of us have been waiting to see for so long, although for someone who has collected this material for many years it would be nice to see Mr Godwin including other portions of the television broadcasts as well as the moonwalks. I eagerly anticipate volume 2 and am hoping that Apollo 16 is next!
