This is a truly excellent book that I've been using quite a bit for the past 6 months. It's both good reading and in-depth technically. I'd been working with ADO & VB6 for about 18 months and this book helped me a lot. Some of the more interesting bits were;- creating fabricated recordsets for complex datatsets, using the datashaping process to create dynamic hierarchial recordsets, using the recordset to generate it's own web page ...
This book really takes ADO apart and there will be very few people who won't benefit from it enormously. It also takes you into the world of dynamic ADO properties which allow you to fine tune your objects. A must for any serious ADO/VB developers.
PS. Some of the code examples are faulty but do work if you fix the obvious mistakes!

The thing I like most about this book is that it seems to cover everything I need about ADO.

I can learn about Disconnected Recordsets, the Data Environment and security features of ADO all in one sitting.

It is rare to get a technical person who can teach so well. Rob MacDonald has a clear and lucid style that puts other more well-known authors into the shade.

As a co-ordinator for a VB user group, I've had excellent feedback from the members for this book, and this is my opportunity to do the same.

From a very easy introduction into the topic, Rob covers just about everything you ever wanted to know about ADO, but were afraid to ask.

The book is superbly written in 2 styles allowing it to be used as a reference, with headings in the margins, as well being readable from start to finish as an accretion of information. I just wish more of the "heavy-weight" books were written in this way!
