4.0 out of 5 stars Not your average comic, 24 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Lowlife (Paperback)
This is the only work of Ed Brubaker's that I have ever read. I gather that a lot of his other work is a bit more traditionally comic book, but this one is more like a collection of illustrated short stories about life in general. Many of them are sad and unfortunately all too easy to identify with. At points the writing gets a little bit heavy handed but the sentiment is pure and somehow that makes the occasional Bukowski rip-off or self-indulgent lapse more tolerable. I would recommend this book to comic reading members of the twenty something generation, but don't expect to laugh too much.
