And some european ones as well. Katharine Gates book Deviant Desires is incredibly well researched, and well illustrated. She shows us incredibly strange sex that you wouldn't believe existed if a friend told about these practices. Pokemon fetishism, balloon-popping fetishism, body inflations, insect crush freaks and much more was new to me. The Geek kept in a box in the movie Pulp Fiction all of a sudden seems perfectly normal. And if you find something in here that makes you tick, Gates has also been so kind as to include resources and contact addresses for each fetish. If anything in here makes you sick, good for you, you have been aided in discovering your own boundaries. Humanity is indeed a diverse and strange breed of animals. A beautiful book, a must for all daring coffee tables (just put it away before the in-laws come over). A great tip for christmas presents.

I bought this book as a little background reading to my psychology dissertation on paraphilic sexual activity; and was not disappointed in the slightest. Written in a wholly approachable and understandable manner, Deviant Desires is a great read for anyone who's interested in the more unusual aspects of human sexuality. Covering topics as diverse as messy food play ("Sploshers") to people that are aroused from activity with balloons, detailed chapters cover numerous topics in depth. Including interviews with fetishists themselves, and the author's own opinions (drawn from many sources) this book is highly accessible to all mature readers - do not fear, it is not filled with psychological babble.

I great book for anyone's 'alternative' coffee table.
