Product Description

Synopsis

Providing safe and responsible information on how to enjoy the kinky pleasures of piercing, "Play Piercing", a recent addition to the lexicon of kink, offers insight, pleasure and erotic thrills. This is one of the very first books to explain in detail the hows and whys of this fascinating practice and offers detailed, responsible information on anatomy, safety and resources for play piercers. Like all Greenery Press books on potentially risky practices, it's been vetted by several kinky-positive physicians to ensure that its information is responsible and up-to-date. In addition to the nuts and bolts of play piercing practice, this informative guide also includes plenty of hot, intense descriptions of playpiercing scenes, especially chosen to help the novice understand the appeal of this increasingly popular practice.

1.0 out of 5 stars A book intended to titillate but it never informs, 8 Jan 2007
By Dale A. Haines "master_ice" (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Being blunt this book is probably the worst book on play piercing that I have ever seen.
It tries to constantly evoke some bizarre form of spirituality by doing such things as referring to the human body as a "skin suit"
There is also a far too great a number of "vignettes".
These are tedious drivel masquerading as spicy little tales referred to on the cover notes as "... plenty of steamy real-life anecdotes of piercers, piercees and the connection between them".
Then of course there is the authors admission that she is a vapirist and enjoys ingesting human blood - whoa there tiger!
Overall there is far more useful and SAFE information available by searching the web.
This book is absolute rubbish and over priced rubbish at that.
If I could give it zero stars I would but I'm stuck with a 1 minimum.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good points and bad - mostly bad, 9 Jun 2008
Good points:
- It does contain the basic information you need to get started play piercing.
- It fills a gap in the market for a book focused on the topic.

Bad points:
- It's really badly written. She uses very annoying language, e.g. her use of the word 'skinsuit' instead of 'body' throughout. This makes it really difficult to read.
- It's badly structured. It's divided into 5 broad sections, but within those sections she rambles aimlessly.
- It's full of terrible, cringeworthy 'erotic stories' that are embarrassingly bad and totally unnecessary.
- It's tiny. It has large margins, double spaced text, is well padded out with the aforementioned awful stories and is still only JUST big enough to qualify as a book. It would have been better if she'd left out the padding and produced it as a booklet/leaflet.
- She tries to explain the 'spiritual' side of play piercing, and fails abysmally for the following reasons: (1) the spiritual aspects of the practice are not something that can be described. It's very personal, very different for each person, and must be experienced to be understood. (2) She's doesn't describe it well, and it comes across like a bunch of pretentious, pseudo-mystic, crazy hippy rubbish. This sort of thing gives the community a bad name and could easily put off a lot of people. (3) A lot of play piercers don't consider it spiritual at all, a totally valid approach which she fails to acknowledge. It would have been far better if she'd taken a more objective, textbook approach and let people discover the more personal side of it themselves.
- She describes play piercing as a sexual practice throughout. Many people enjoy play piercing as a non-sexual, non-kink-related practice, another valid school of thinking which she fails to appreciate.
- She writes too much about her own personal preferences and kinks, which is neither relevant nor interesting.
- The useful information that it does contain is all stuff that can be found on the internet with a bit of effort.

So, two stars for the useful stuff that is in there if you can grit your teeth and wade through the rubbish, and for taking the initiative to write a book on play piercing. Here's hoping someone will have a more successful go at it soon.
