4.0 out of 5 stars A good buy for novice ladies (and hopeful guys), 20 April 2004
By E. J. Smith "Nell Smith" (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book won't really surprise anyone with even an average experience of the BDSM scene (or an average amount of commonsense and imagination!) with regard to the "educational" advice given, such as basic safety tips, ideas on ways to improvise cheap home-made versions of expensive shop-bought toys, and so on. This isn't a book for anyone hoping to build on existing BDSM know-how, and nor is it meant to be. The book acknowledges that femdom can be intimidating for the novice lady and thus it's aimed at novices, intending to reassure and guide those who may doubt their abilities to act the domme rôle; as such, it succeeds. It is written in a gentle and loving style and avoids any kind of sleazy or pornographic overtones which could put off an aspiring domme who is turned off by the rather cheap and nasty "top-shelf" magazine images of the generic dominatrix. The book is more or less a "how to get started" guide for loving couples/partners and, though it contains quite basic information,it does give a positive and encouraging view of both the joys and the problems of learning to become a domme. Not recommended for advanced or even intermediate "players", but great for those wondering how and where to start.
This would be an especially good book for a sub male to give to his inexperienced but hopefully domme partner, and for him to read too, as it does make clear that, for many women, acting the domme rôle isn't exactly as easy as it looks, and can take quite some emotional and practical effort. All in all, if the book were a bit more detailed, with more than one example scenario included (although the given scenario would be a good"starting point"), I'd have given it five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Need to convince your woman? Buy this., 12 May 1999
By A Customer
The gentlest introduction to femdom. The introduction even addresses the woman whose husband/lover took a huge risk to give her the book. Gives a fair treatment of the emotional issues facing the woman whose socialization is to be nice, pleasant, and receiving. Excellent discussion of processing emotions afterward. Good for the hopeful sub and for the domina with training wheels.

3.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what it says in the title, 11 Nov 2000
By A Customer
This book is a good, gentle introduction for the absolute beginner, but if you are past that stage I'd suggest trying The Topping Book or Screw The Roses instead. It would be a good book for a hopeful would-be-sub to offer their uninitiated partner, or for a kean and unconnected novice to start with. It's only a slender volume, and thus perhaps not worth the purchase price unless you really haven't a clue how to get started. For all that, I still liked it and would use it as a primer if someone asked me about the topic.
