This is not only an Islamic classic but also one of the great spiritual autobiographies in the religious tradition. al-Ghazali (1058-1111) is generally acclaimed as the most influential thinker of medieval Islam. This volume contains a translation of Ghazali's autobiography The Deliverance from Error, in which the Imam describes his education and his intellectual crisis, which left him so paralysed by doubt that he was forced to resign the most distinguished academic appointment of his day.

some great words from imam Ghazali are:

"Knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity."


"Does money upset the hearts of learned men?
he answered "men whose hearts are changed by money are not learned"

imam Ghazali is one of the greatest scholars islam has ever seen. A master of theology, himself said that "I did not write a single word on theology until i memorised thousands of pages, of what the best theologans of islam have said about it".

the imam found from his own experimentation that Sufism is the best way of life, sufis have the best personalities, and sufism is the easiest way to finding Almighty God.

you can also purchase the excellent film made about imam ghazali from www.matmedia.org. i absolutely love this film, it is very modern, and very well funded and made.
