5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding work !, 10 Oct 2000
By A Customer
If you thought Tai Chi was just a low impact health routine for people too lazy to do a hard martial art, think again ! Aimed at people who already know the form, this book shows how to use it as an effective martial art. The depth of knowledge on offer is outstanding. Photo's and written descriptions depict the takedowns, joint locking and cavity striking options for each move of the form, with several variations of each. The author is honest enough to admit that the book will not turn anyone into a master martial artist overnight but suggests that if you know the martial aspects of the form it can only help improve your practise. Like most simple ideas it's essential truth is obvious. The book continues with extensive sections on push hands and Tai Chi ball practise which offer even more depth to this already impressive work. If you practise Tai Chi as a health excercise or as a martial art this book is a must have. Thank you Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming.

3.0 out of 5 stars very good, 6 Nov 2001
By A Customer
I am new to tai chi (9 months Yang style), and I have bought this book recently to help my visualisation while performing the form. It has helped me enormously. There is a lot of information in this book, for the advanced student mainly, but all beginners will find it useful once they finish a basic set of movents. Drawbacks: very poor printed quality (paper, banding, dark photographs)-the reasons I gave 3 stars only.
