5.0 out of 5 stars A blessed nautical celtic ramble through 60's Scotland, 2 Dec 2001
By A Customer
Scotland is not for the Sqeamish is an excellent introduction to the bittersweet experience of a young celt and sassanach in 1960's Scotland. The end of the great British maritime tradition allows our hero to explore his Celtic past in Scotland.

Never dull, there are literally several chilling episodes at sea. Bill Watkins is always able to weave history into the journey of a young man through early adulthood.

As a son of a Scot, this is a 5 star read. There is a rich history to celebrate, and an insight into the social forces over the centuries which have forged "Scotland the Brave"

5.0 out of 5 stars Truth is stranger than fiction, 23 Oct 2003
By A Customer
I have been lucky enough to have traveled with Wild Bill Watkins in Scotland and have met many of the people he wrote about, all I can say is, the accounts I heard from them not only corroberate the awesome events described in Scotland is not for the Squeamish, but some were even wilder. Bill never claimed to have embellished his stories, that word was added by his publishers without his knowledge. Read on and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly amusing and readable, 23 April 2003
Excellent- thoroughly amusing and with the touch of somebody with a genuine, youthful desire to go and live in a place he'd previously only heard about. Anecodote after anecdote had me rolling and I was through the book in one go.

The only reason I'd give this four stars rather than five is that Watkins admits he may have 'embellished' certain parts. Honest of him to admit it but I'd have liked to have kept the illusion that it all happened as described.

Funnily enough, I read this whilst in Melbourne (where a fellow reviewer is from). As a Sassenach who has visited and enjoyed Scotland, I found this an entertaining and interesting glimpse into life north of the border.
