Product Description

Product Description

First Runner-Up in the Writers Notes Book Awards, this highly acclaimed book has been helping children and adults with autism, ADHD, Celiac disease, and other disorders since 1998. In a nutshell, certain enzymes are required to break down gluten and casein. If the enzymes that normally break down casein and gluten don't function well, serious neurological problems can result. Studies have shown that children with autism have a marked deficiency of these enzymes, so gluten-fee casein-free (GFCF) diets have yielded positive results for many children. This book - part medical treatise, part cookbook - teaches how to make GFCF entrees, breads, desserts, and many other foods the entire family will enjoy eating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but written with US readers in mind, 3 Jun 2001
By A Customer
The 'understanding' part of the book is more appropriate to a UK reader than the implementation side of it, which is because the book was written by an American author with the American public in mind. Reference has been made to ingredients and recipes which are not really available outside the US, which complicates the implementation of a diet somewhat.

I would have given the book 5 stars if it was the only book on the subject available, but I would recommend Marilyn le Breton's book even higher, than this, otherwise, excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for parents of kids with autism and ADHD, 10 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This book gives you all the details you need to know about how changing diet can change your child's life. It also gives you information on where to get support and more information.

It is written by a mother and gives her perspective on how the diet can help as well as medical proof.

I've read loads on the internet about the diet but this is the only book I know of that is an on hand reference. Whether your child's been on the diet for years or is just starting out i'd recommend you buy it.

It looks at what the diet is all about, What you can and can not feed your child, gives a sample letter to give to people who will be caring for your child and outlines how to implement the diet as well as recipes to help you along.

I'd definately recommend it to all parents of children who may benefit. Give it a try, you've got nothing to lose!
