This is an important work covering the Atlanta campaign, and the neglected Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. This book follows Union General William T. Sherman and his army south from Chattanooga, as he tries to break the Army of Tennessee led by Confederate General Joseph Johnston. The author shows the depth of his research, as the narrative is largely from the diaries and letters of the men involved. Using their own words, he covers the strategy and conditions that influenced the commander's decisions. Well illustrated with maps and photographs. A very good choice for Civil War buffs.
