3.0 out of 5 stars Total beginners bowling guide, 20 Sep 1999
By A Customer
I have a "Surfers Start-Up", and this proved very much along the same lines, as in, it is for the complete novice; meaning, if you've only "chucked" the ball down the lane, this will help, as it shows how to approach, and throw a basic hook shot (right&left handed), and explains the reasons why. What it misses is a guideline telling you WHY your ball is going left right and everywhere. It shows pictures of bad form, but doesn't explain what result the bad form gives. Worth it for the beginner

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Fundamentals for Beginners or Returners., 26 Mar 1999
By A Customer
When asked to go bowling again, after not having done so in over twenty years, I found my game had simply disappeared. I was a beginner again. This little book, lavishly illustrated, written with wit and humor, put those pesky little fundamentals back in perspective. Bowling is fun, and Werner's book reminds us that it's fun, or should be.

Werner gives a brief history of the sport, some prominent bowlers which will surprise a number of people, and some solid techniques to get your game back in shape with very little effort. He also gives a very useful table of common errors, and suggested corrections.

But most of all, Doug Werner reminds the reader that the way to learn to bowl is to go bowling. Read the book, then get out there and knock `em down.

A bargain at Amazon's price, this book will delight any beginner, and is invaluable to the rookie or out of practice bowler. Five stars aren't enough.
