Product Description

Review

"The purpose of studying aikido is not only to gain physical ability. We practice for the deeper reason to become better human beings. For that reason I highly recommend this "Aikido Student Handbook" by Mr. Greg O'Connor. I believe this book will be beneficial not only for those who are just starting Aikido, but for those already involved and particularly for those who hold teaching positions."
- Yoshimitsu Yamada

From the Author

A guide to Aikido phiosophy, etiquette and training
This handbook is an easy to read explanation of Aikido. It covers its philosophy and etiquette and gives tips on how to approach Aikido training. It is meant as a guide for those interested in Aikido, for beginners and advanced aikido practitioners and as a tool for aikido instructors to better help their students and their dojos.

1.0 out of 5 stars VERY VERY Basic book, equivalent to learning manners !, 25 Mar 2000
This book is exceptionally basic, and does not really provide much use to anyway over about 10yrs old who has mastered manners in every day life. Sections on "using the phone in the Dojo" always ask and keep calls brief ! Look instead at books like "Aikido and the dynamic sphere". This book is probably of use if you are introducing a child to the dojo, to explain what is required and expected of them, an adult that doesn't know most of the etiquette is probably learning the wrong art anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the new aikidoist!, 10 May 1999
By A Customer
I was hesitant to purchase this book but am SO glad I did. I've been a martial artist for some time now and just recently began aikido. This book is a wonderful resource for newcomers, as it includes philosophy and etiquette and ways you can begin working on fitting in to your new dojo. Even how to SELECT the right dojo for you. Anyone interested in aikido, you need this book at the beginning of your training.

I found this book quite helpful after I got my blackbelt and was floundering around wondering what to do next.
