5.0 out of 5 stars This is a excellent comprehensive purse/briefcase size book., 8 April 1999
By A Customer
Do not make the mistake I did and buy a lot of books first to get started in beading. This book covers all the questions you will have. I won't spoil the fun and tell you all the goodies. But it does cover a lot. A few items are: On and off loom weaving techniques; tools, findings, threads, what they are called and how to use them. There are bead size charts, measuring charts and tip boxes throughout. How to use wire, cord making, finishing and knots. There is more but the fun of a new book is being surprised. So I'll tell you no more except, it has good clean black and white illustrations and the print is easy on the eyes. This compact book ends with five different graphs and comes in a plastic protective cover. The one thing that would be helpful are lined note pages. For the beading ideas that will spring up and beading sources/suppliers you will come across. BECAUSE YOU WILL WANT TO CARRY THIS BOOK WITH YOU!

5.0 out of 5 stars an invaluable book no fanatic beader should be without, 30 April 2001
By A Customer
My husband bought this book in the USA when I first became interested in beading - sheer luck. It shows virtually every technique you would need to know plus other very useful information. It's a terrific 'starter'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential!, 24 Aug 2005
This book is absolutely indispensable. It contains the answers to all those nagging little questions that it's so hard to find the answers to: how many seed beads to the inch, what sort of thread and needle do I use with what sort of bead, what's a rocaille, rat tail, tiger tail? The section on findings is particularly useful for illustrating all those strange bits of metal very clearly, and explaining their uses.

As well as this comprehensive overview of equipment, there are also instructions for stringing, weaving, embroidery, bead-knitting and -crochet and wirework, plus some useful blank graphs for working out patterns in various stitches. I should stress that though various beading stitches are explained, the book does not have any instructions for complete projects: there are plenty of such books around, but few that are such a mine of useful information as this one.

No beader's bookshelf should be without a copy of this!
