I discovered this book by chance when reading a recommendation list about travel literature!So I hunted the title down on Amazon and read it in anticipation for my upcoming travels around South East Asia!I definatley give this book top marks in inspiring fellow backpackers!Its light reading, and I read it in one sitting!The story follows a girl called Maddy who travels out to Thailand with her boyfriend Ben. After travelling Bangkok to Chiang Mai Maddy discovers that her boyfriend's love for drugs proves to be greater than his love for her as she is left abandoned in northern Thailand. Maddy becomes mesmerized by a poster searching for an American girl which sets her into following a personal journey into finding herself. After a twisted chain of events Maddy finds herself tangled into a web of twisted and dangerous circumstances involving drug smuggling, prostitution and Thai prisons.This is a great book which enlightens us on the darker side of "the Land of Smiles" and is a refreshing change from the happy go lucky backpacker adventures we hear of so often!
