A Guide to Digital Imaging Buzzwords
I originally wanted to call this book "Buzzwords," with the subtitle The Digital Imaging Dictionary, because that's what this book is all about. While no single source could hold all of the buzzwords that surround digital imaging, I did my best to collect new words as well as terms adopted from the fields of computing, printing, and photography. The language of digital imaging, like English, is evolving and new acronyms and terms spring up each day. That's why the book contains invented words like "Pixography," a term I do not claim to have coined, but have adopted for the title of my monthly column in Professional Photographer magazine. But the book is more than simply a dictionary. I have tried to fill it with introductions to technology, computer folklore and legends, sprinkled with a little gossip. And unlike most dictionaries, this one contains photographs. The cover photo, by the way, is an original digital image created (by me) of an unrestored vintage fire truck.

The July 1999 issue of Shutterbug magazine has a long excerpt from this dictionary. There are dozens of errors in the exceprt. For example, Joe describes "EDO DRAM" as memory that "sends our data-even if a controller loads more data in a vacant address". That's not only wrong, it doesn't make much sense.

If the excerpt really came from the final version of this book's text, I would avoid the book completely and try to find something more accurate.
