Product Description

Review

"Intrepid globetrotter, researcher, and writer extraordinaire, Frank Joseph takes the reader on a tour in search of Atlantis. Enjoy with him the alchemical thrill of transforming dramatic legend into historical reality and experience his passion and dedication as he unravels this age-old story. Definitely a can't-put-downer and must-read book for the enthusiast of ancient mysteries."

Book Description

The most comprehensive reconstruction of the history and fate of the legendary ancient civilization of Atlantis.
* Draws together compelling evidence from geology, astronomy, myths,
and ancient texts to prove the existence of Atlantean civilization and its catastrophic end.
* Includes a vivid narrative that re-creates the last days of Atlantis.
* Represents 20 years worth of research across the globe.

All human cultures, from classical and biblical to native North and South American, share the myth of an ancient deluge, often coinciding with a rain of fire from the heavens. What accounts for this shared myth of environmental catastrophe? Now, in The Destruction of Atlantis, author Frank Joseph links this worldwide cultural phenomenon to the story of the lost civilization of Atlantis, which in a single day and night disappeared into the sea in a violent cataclysm.

In the most comprehensive account of this legendary island, Joseph provides compelling evidence that Atlantis was at the root of all subsequent human civilizations. Brilliantly refuting years of modern skepticism, Joseph combines evidence from archaeology, geology, astronomy, and ancient lore to locate Atlantis in the context of Near Eastern Bronze Age society at the end of the 13th century B.C. The author seamlessly combines hard scientific evidence with a stunning imaginative re-creation of what it must have been like to walk the streets of Atlantis in its last days. The resulting portrait of a mighty empire corrupted by an overreaching lust for wealth and power offers an important lesson to our own materialistic civilization poised on the brink of ecological disaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a book which shows us the true Atlantis......, 15 Jul 2005
This book is fantastic; finally we have a book which gives us a true view of what Plato's Atlantis could have been like. Gathering evidence from around the world the Author strips away all the rubbish that more "outrageous" enthusiasts of Atlantis have added over the years and leaves us with evidence that supports the existence of an actual historical place called Atlantis. This book is a perfect read for new readers giving a brief background of Atlantis and current theories on the subject, and for the more seasoned enthusiasts he builds up evidence to show a more plausible and realistic Atlantis using evidence that he has gathered from around the world. This is a must read for anyone interested in Atlantis!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth a look for Atlanteologists, 30 Oct 2003

I was quite new to the concept of Atlantis as actually having being "real" at some point in our history. Having read this book, I am am convinced that there are certain events that unify much of our history but whether they can be directly attributed to the destruction of Atlantis or not, I will leave up to you. The author makes a strong case for his argument and to be honest, he left me wanting to know more. I don't think this book is the definitive answer but it will give you a good starting point to begin your own reading - it did for me! There is definitely something to what he says. The story is fascinating, but it's up to you what you make of it - secrets of the planet or total nonsense? Read it and find out!

2.0 out of 5 stars Tosh, 27 Aug 2009

One of the few good points about this book is it's an easy read. It did however make me quite angry - the 'facts' presented within are almost totally lacking any references or proof. The author is merely stating his own personal opinions as fact.
Read this book if you're interested in the subject but don't expect to be convinced by his lines of reasoning.

P.S my favourite part was him mentioning huge Atlantean war elephants wielding enormous scimitars with their trunks. Cracked me up!
