In terse and lucid prose, author Unica Zurn traces the roots of her own neurotic obsessions: the exotic father whom she idolised, the 'impure' mother she detested, and the masochistic fantasies and masturbatory rituals which she said described 'the erotic life of a little girl based on my own childhood.' The protagonist of this story, a nameless little girl, and her playmate, Elisa, invent a howling language which they use to express the grief of the whole world. The results are savage and terrifying.
