5.0 out of 5 stars A great value if you can't afford the full Humann set, 11 Dec 1997
By A Customer
This is a great book for snorkelers and beginning divers! The color photographs are beautiful and make identification easy. Although this small book is nowhere near as comprehensive as Humann's complete reef identification set, it's a great bargain for those wanting to know the names of most of the common things they see when snorkeling in the Caribbean. The book also contains some valuable pointers about which plants and animals should be approached with caution, how to treat stings, and other interesting facts. It's disappointing that there are so many typos, especially considering that there is relatively little text in the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good guide if you're travelling lite!, 12 Dec 2006
If you're short on room but still want to be able to ID most of the marine life you're likely to see diving and snorkelling, then this is a great book to take. A paperback, not too big, and quite thin so you can cram it in a rucksac easily. Includes the most common species you're likely to see and the it's exactly the same good quality pics from the 3 series edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, compact guide, 20 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Bought this guide on the previous recommendation. The guide crams a huge number of species into its 80 pages. Each species is accompanied by a clear photograph aiding easy identification. What the book makes up with species variety it lacks information on ecology such as habitat. Never-the-less this book is a wonderful guide and wont weigh you down as the full set of guides would.

For me, this book was a waste of space. I visit the Bahamas occasionally and several of the abundant species I see there are missing from this book. Read more
