Product Description

Dan Gookin loves a challenge. He must, otherwise he wouldn′t have taken on so daunting a topic as the C programming language. And as you can see from C For Dummies, Volume One, Gookin was definitely up to the task: Right off the bat, this plain–English guide to programming in one of the most widely accepted computer languages can have you coding in C just like a pro. Best of all, you can count on C For Dummies, Volume One (along with C For Dummies, Volume Two) to provide the best possible foundation as you advance to the latest stage of C evolution, C++

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, FUNNY, EASY, AND-ABOVE-ALL-ELSE, FUN BOOK!!!, 13 Jan 2002
I knew nothing about programming. I bought this book to start off,and it has been a GREAT help. It is very descriptive, explains everything without using jargon, has a quiz at the end of each part, and has a lot of comedy. I tried other books, but they were TOO technical for beginners of programming. This book teaches C step by step, and it is really fun to read. I recommend this book as a starting point for anyone who wants to get involved with programming (seeing as you can follow C off with C++, and follow that off with Java!).
5 STAR RATING! EXCELLENT BOOK!

3.0 out of 5 stars Covers Basics Well, 31 May 2000
By A Customer
I would reccomened this book to anyone wanting to get into c.

It Covers Basics Well, but will not teach you all the skills you will need. This is useful if you want to learn c++, and just need to understand the basics of c as this book and volume 2 will allow you to understand the basic c syntax.

However, if you intend to learn c totally, I would reccomend these 2 volumes in addition to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars For a beginner, simply brilliant., 24 May 2000

This book is great. I've programmed in Visual Basic, but you don't need to know any programming to pick up this book. Dan Gookin introduces you to C with humour, ease, and great success. I've learnt the basic syntax and keywords of C, and I'm ready to move on to some more complex books. I've just bought "C For Dummies Vol 2", again by Mr Gookin, so I hope that's as good! I'm going to buy "The C Programming Language" next, written by Kernigan and Ritchie. That's a good buy for advanced users, apparently. Keep writing!
