The pages are packed with photographs and the book is a handy size to carry to the dive locations. The species that vary in colour or between sexes are all illustrated with additional photographs. Whilst text for each species is brief, it describes points of interest and differences between similar species. The introduction explains the basics of fish-science, behaviour and evolution. There are detailed drawings on fish-features, shapes and colour patterns. To assist in identifying the family, small, but diagnostic silhouettes from the contents are distributed as thumbprints throughout the book. The families being colour coded.
