A useful and helpful guide to Vietnam, if your interests is in trains or the railways. The information provided are very relevant and accurate which is always a good start. I have checked some of it myself! Well, relevant as of summer 2001. I remember listening to the author on the radio (Liberty, around autumn 2000)promoting her book she sounds as though she also got to know the people and actually enjoyed the food. Very useful and refreshing for someone like myself who spent 6 months travelling around Viet Nam during 2001.

Tess Read is clearly a remarkable person. She has single-handedly produced a veritable bible for the traveller, and made the read an easy and enjoyable process. Personally, I could have done with more about Apocalypse Now, but that is a tiny quibble about an excellent book. Make this the one you take with you!
