4.0 out of 5 stars shrimp and spey flies for salmon, 13 Jun 2003
A really great pattern book.

I like the discussion on pattern styles and the history of the shrimp fly. Refernces to the tiers is also interesting as it gives a human touch, where usually a sterile list of patterns is the norm.

The book explores the connections between European and North American patterns. This is novel and despite feeling somewhat contrived at first it does achieve a new perspective and is to be welcomed.

One criticism though. The authors would have been struggling for material if not for the extensive referencing of other titles- themselves published only a few years before this volume. These offer a wider range of salmon fly styles and include trout patterns. It felt like lazy research.

However, that said, it is a very enjoyable read and a comprehensive reference book.
