Product Description

Synopsis

Simply creating a website and putting it on the Internet is not enough to generate online sales. In Cyberspace there simply isn't any passing traffic. The customer will selectively choose which sites they are going to visit, and without a well thought out and successfully implemented marketing plan, the majority will not even know that you are out there. "The Net-Works Guide to Marketing your Website" will show you how to construct and deliver a promotional strategy. It covers everything from the basics of linking to other sites and search engine registration, through to referral sales and associate programmes. The reader will learn: how to promote their site in newsgroups and chat groups without being 'flamed'; the importance of META tags and how to use them; how to build customer loyalty; what is meant by 'sticky content' and how to write it; why ezines, newsletters and bait pages are important; ways of promoting their site in the traditional media.

From the Author

Will this book help me to get more traffic to my site?
YES, this is a book that will teach you how to arrange, list and promote your site in the most effective manner possible (and even show you a few tricks along the way), but these techniques go hand in hand with your site's usability. By offering something of value to potential customers and listing it in the most effective way possible, you can not only achieve stronger traffic results, but also make web users more receptive to your business message.

If this were a book about marketing in the real world, it would almost definitely be consigned to the 'guerrilla marketing' section - but as you will learn before the end of the first chapter, the web is very, very different.

2.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat out of date now ...., 4 Aug 2003
An okay book for absolute beginners, but rather light (100 pages) and now rather out of date (written in 2000, there's numerous references to defunct search engines, search methods and sites, plus many URLs which do not exist any more). Great if you want a quick taster of internet marketing in a couple of hours, but leaves you wanting more ....

5.0 out of 5 stars essential read for all web designers/producers!, 27 Feb 2001
By A Customer
It may well have one of the most horrid, cheapo covers around, but this book definitely delivers on content!

Chapter by chapter, it provides clear and concise insights into ways to drive visitors to your website and keep them coming back.

The section on search engines is particularly well explained and all wannabe new media marketers should be forced to read Tim's comments about spamming.

Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genuinely useful primer, 23 Aug 2001
Tim Ireland has produced a great book that gets across the fundamental differences between internet marketing and offline marketing quickly and succinctly. Having done this he gets straight down to the brass tacks of how to promote a web site with plenty of useful, actionable advice.

A handy reference for professionals and all you need for amateurs.

Worth it for chapter 16 alone.
