4.0 out of 5 stars The real best of British!, 6 Jul 2001
By hussellj@hotmail.com (Cardiff, Wales, UK) - See all my reviews
I first read this book back in 1992/3 when I found a used first pressing in a Swansea book shop, and it opened my eyes to the way things used to be in the UK wrestling industry during the early part of the 20th century.

Oakeley provides frank and detailed descriptions of encounters with foreign stars such as George Hackenschmidt, while giving us his life story in a way only a former British soldier could - with a stiff upper lip.

The copy I proudly own holds the original rules of Catch As Catch Can wrestling, the foundation for today's pro-wrestling, and also has glossy plates of the author and gentlemen who were synonymous with wrestling in the Golden Age of Wrestling.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book with horrendous mistake, 22 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This is a fascinating book about the old days of wrestling. But why is the author's name misspelt on the cover of the book??
