Product Description

Product Description

Stranded demonstrates yet again the scope of Val McDermid's imagination, her versatility as a stylist and her immense powers as a storyteller. As well as McDermid's popular series character, private eye Kate Brannigan, this diverse collection contains narrative voices, both female and male, from different continents and an eclectic range of backgrounds. McDermid has chosen the short-story form to probe not only the motivations of the criminal underworld but also the nature of crime itself, all the time playing with crime-writing and pushing it to its limits. There are even occasions where McDermid defies the genre altogether and the collection is framed by two stories that show a writer exploring fresh territory. Grit, sex, glamour, intrigue and unexpected turns: Stranded is a showcase of trademark McDermid that will strike a few surprising chords amongst even her most devoted readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars short stories r us..., 20 May 2006

The reason im not giving this 5 stars is because it doesnt have that pull that the really amazing books give you. However, it is by no means a bad book. I actually read it in one sitting.
Stranded is a collection of several short stories by Val McDermid. Some end with the solving of a crime while others end with one being committed. There is even the odd story of nothing more than self discovery which is unusual for Ms McDermid.
Kate Brannigan, who appears in other McDermid books also features in one or two stories.

Most of the stories are thought provoking in some way or another which will leave you pondering over the various aspects of crime and the things that lead people to commit it. Sometimes just everyday people like you or i making a decision that will forever change our lives and those of the people around us.
Interesting book.

One to read when you've got nothing to do at home on a sunday in.

Happy reading...
