For residents (or ex-pats) of the Monklands area, and indeed for anyone remotely interested in architecture, this is a superb publication. 75 pages packed full of photographs and interesting facts about the buildings of Coatbridge, Airdrie and the surrounding villages.

Although the book concentrates mainly on architetural styles there are enough interesting snippets to keep it interesting for everyone. The introduction tells a bit of the history behind the area and its growth, while various maps and plans plot the exact location of each building.

The only real downsides are that the majority of the photographs are in greyscale (although there are several colour pictures in the middle of the book), and that not all of the described buildings are pictured.

However, as a reference tool or simply to satisfy your curiosity about those buildings which you may walk past every day this is a great title to have on your bookshelf.
