Product Description

Synopsis
Dressage rider Kyra Kyrklund explains the system of training that has brought her repeated success with numerous horses from novice to Grand Prix. She believes that when a horse and rider are working together, not only should the picture look easy, but also it should be easy for both partners. The key words in her method are "systematic", "logical" and "consistent". Step by step she guides the reader through her ABC. She reveals how she teaches horses to work happily on the lightest aids possible and stresses the importance of two-way communication, and that the training system must at all times be fair. Kyra explains how to develop straightness, bend and flexion, and a correct rein contact. The importance of position and balance and how to use the seat actively and passively are explained.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kyra Kyrkland and Jytte Lemkow share the secrets of training, 29 Dec 1998
By A Customer
This well illustrated and diagramed book will become a handbook on its own. Kyra Kyrklund's personal approach to training horses is refreshing yet easy to follow even by a novice trainer. Without a great deal of detail, the important aspects of the rider's seat, legs and hands, as well as the use of the weight aids is clearly described. She askes the rider to understand how to commucicate with the horse clearly and directly. The exercises are clearly described both in text, diagrams and photographs. The correct way is shown in color, while the opposite may be shown in black and white. It is easy to read and encourages the trainer/rider to approach riding and schooling in a positive manner. Kyra Kyrkland has been a popular clinician in the US and in Dressage With Kyra, together with Rider and Judge Jytte Lemkow enables us to enjoy a personal opportunity to improve our riding as well as our horses' way of going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should have gotten this book years ago!, 24 April 2008
Kyra's book is brilliantly clear and well written! Exactly what I have always wanted out of a dressage book. The aids are described clearly for every movement from the ABC to collected and lateral work. Reading this book will make you think what aids you are giving and when you are using them...
Excellent book and my only regret is that I didn't get it earlier!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book easy to follow and understand, 3 Jun 2009
By Joanne Thomson "twofatlabs" (Argentina) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dressage with Kyra (Paperback)
This book assumes that the rider has experience and probably would only be
chosen by riders who are past the basics. That said it takes you back to basic's and refreshes the memory, when you ride daily many different horses you find yourself working on automactic piolet almost like driving a car the same route everyday. This book makes you really think again about what aids you are giving whether conciously or unconciously and exactly what effect they are having on the horse.I have started five of my own horses and last year took on another youngster that had been started by someone else for only a short time, but using draw reins. It has taken a year to get him to accept a soft contact and work with a relaxed neck. I am now starting the training of my first stallion who is a big boy and I was fortunate to get him when he had only been sat on and walked in a straight line, I am using the principles outlined in this book and hopefully will have a happy contented horse who wants to work with me in a partnership. Excellent book highly recommend it to riders of all levels.
