It only takes the description by Dr Kerry Ridgeway, who is "Mr Endurance" in terms of managing the veterinary side of the sport, as a " reference bible", to know that this is THE book. The author, herself an endurance rider and vet, takes you as deep into the science of the performance horse as you want, in terms that anybody can understand, but including information that even veterinarians have forgotten. The chapters on feeding and shoeing are top of the table in their helpful opinions on aspects of this sport that is not covered elsewhere, and troubleshooting tips can be found throughout this well-thumbed manual. The only problem is that the book is so easy to read, yet thorough, that lending it out only results in it getting lost - tell people to get their own copies!

For those sarting out in endurance this is a great book, but the more I've read it the more 'american' I've found it- saying that I do keep picking it up and flicking through. There are some really interesting things - like the effects of traveling on the horse.
