Excellent book, pleasant scenery, 22 Oct 2001

This book is an excellent and comprehensive description of the Chiltern Way, a 133 mile circular walk through the Chiltern Hills.Nick Moon is an experienced walker and author and he leaves no stone unturned in providing all the information required for the long-distance walker. The route descriptions are accurate and detailed, matched by clear maps showing the route and nearby geographic features. Each section lists the OS maps covering that section, should further detail be required, along with interesting historical notes for towns and villages. There is also a table of distances and heights for each significant place on the route - averaging nearly one every mile - and an overall map showing the Chiltern Way in relation to other long-distance paths in the region. I did the walk in 9 days, and whilst the waymarking is very good, there are one or two points where it is lacking and the book proves essential for staying on track. The best part of the walk? The 30 miles from Bovingdon Green to Stokenchurch, particularly around Stonor. The worst is undoubtedly a rough part through Dunstable.
