Review
This book is a must have for Jaguar E-Type enthusiasts. Intended as a restorers guide, this book has little historical information. It is largely comprised of build details of every model of E-Type - from the original Series I 3.8 litre, with outside bonnet latches, to the last Series III V-12. Successive changes in each model are well documented, including the Series 1 1/2 changes. Each model change is bracketed by the starting and ending serial numbers of the models effected. The color photographs in this book are outstanding. Photos were taken of meticulously restored, clean vehicles, in ideal lighting situations. Billed as a restorers guide, this book is more of a checklist for item completion during the restoration process, or a guide to authenticity when you are reviewing an E-Type at a show, auction, or for purchase. If you are looking for a book to assist you during the restoration process, this is not it. However, if you want to double check that you have a correct car, this will get you most of the way there. Additionally, I know of no one who has restored any automobile without looking over as many examples as possible. Couple this book with the "Jaguar E-Type 6 & 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide," and you are most of the way there. --Rod and Custom
Another in the Original Cars Series by Philip Porter. Excellent color photography by Tim Andrew. All of the cars pictured are right hand drive. There are enough close-ups of details, especially interiors to make this car worth the price. Covers everything from the flat-floor S1's to the last black S3. Especially useful is the charts of all of the original factory interior - exterior color combinations. Lots of details on production changes. Well worth the price --Pitstop
