As a complete begginer in the world of computer music I found this book to be very helpfull. Several of the other books I have read jump into too quick and forget that some of us don't have the benefit of college courses or know other people that have an understanding of this complex subject. This book on the other hand does an excellent job of explaining PC music in a clear way.

Ok so there's no examples, but thats not what I wanted. I personally found this extremely clear and exactly what I was after i.e. a basic introduction into the world of PC music.

Yes the style of writing can be a bit 'down the pub like', but I think that adds to the charm of such a well laid out book.

If you are completely new to this subject I would suggest buying this book as it will give you the basic ideas about sequencers and samplers etc. Then of course you can move onto the more in depth publications.

The title say 'The Easy Guide' and that's what the author Robin Vincent has sucessfully achieved.

I am neither a novice with music or P.C.'s however I was very much a novice at making music on my P.C. This book showed me how to go about it.
The information is logically explained in an informal manner which I found very easy to read. There are helpful diagrams and a very useful product appendix for when you feel you are ready to upgrade your hardware and software. I also found the e-mail advice provided by the author about what equipment I should start off with very useful too.
Note for all you experts out there, this is PC Music - the EASY guide, it isn't meant to go into a lot of depth and tricky techy stuff. It was pitched at the right level for me and it will be suitable for any other newcomers to making music with their P.C.

I found this book very helpful, useful and informative. It isn't aimed at experts, but it is a good introduction for those who know a little about music and PC's.
The authors approach is clear, informative, and helpful, but not at all patronising. I am fairly experienced with both PC's and music and still found it useful. For example it taught me how to properly set up and organise my computers soundcards.
It is true that perhaps a few tutorials would be beneficial, and a second book for the more advanced. There isn't, for example, a particularly good section on using sampling for music production, which was one of the areas I'm interested in. It only gives some insight into the software that can do this, which is useful, but not really enough for me. However, overall I found this book well written.
