The social season includes traditional events such as Royal Ascot, Wimbledon and Henley and these have now been joined by newer ones such as motor sport's Goodwood Festival of Speed. This book aims to list such events and to give something of their history and flavour.

About the Author

Celestria Noel is the youngest daughter of the Earl of Gainsborough. After her debutante season she went to Oxford, where she read English. In 1992, she became social editor of Harpers & Queen, taking over the Jennifer's Diary Column. As part of the job she attended all the events of the British social season as well as many private parties and weddings on five continents. She now works as a freelance writer.

This is a wonderful and modern look at the social season. Even if you do not attend any of the events listed in this book, it is still and interesting and enjoyable read. Celestria Noel's writing is witty and informative and her experience of the social season shines through this book. However, I do think that �9.99 is quite a lot of money for a thin paperback but this is published by prestigious publishers Debrett's. The book could perhaps be improved with some photographs of the events so that you get an idea of what to expect.

There are very few books about the social season available and this is a reasonably up to date book that gives you all the information you need to steer yourself through the social season. So whether you are intending to attend the events or are interested in the season and the aristocracy or you simply want a good read then this is the book for you.
