Product Description
Synopsis
The seventh book in the "Black Profiles" series, which profiles black people living and working in England who have overcome serious obstacles to achieve great success. Chinwe Roy is a Suffolk artist, born in Nigeria, who survived the Biafran war only to be struck down by a devastating illness. Having since painted such celebrities as the athlete Kriss Akabusi, her commission to paint a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen brings her to the peak of her successful career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspiring book, 15 Jul 2007
An initial scan of the cover gave an indication of just another 'success against the odds' type bio. but still interesting enough to buy for my son. It turned out to be a truly fascinating story about an exceptional person who has become one of the World's foremost artists. My son has read & re-read the book and it has inspired him to really make a go of his art. No doubt intended to be a 'role model' type book for black kids, Chinwe's story is much much more than that.
I have recently been privileged to see the artist's work in a London exhibition - since the publishing of this book she has reached even greater heights and I hope the author - Verna Wilkins - can see her way to publishing an update to inspire even more people!
