When Dave loses his loose tooth while sneezing, he decides to substitute his grandfather's false teeth under his pillow so he can collect enough money from the Tooth Fairy to buy a new kite. Stories about lost teeth aren't unusual in children's books, but "Dave and the Tooth Fairy" provides a refreshing look at a traditional subject. The Tooth Fairy, Afiya, is a young woman who keeps records on a computer. Dave's friend Zizwe happens to be in a wheelchair. Paul Hunt's astonishing photo-realistic artwork glows with strategically placed color. Dave is looking for his tooth, Afiya is looking for a day job where she can meet children while they're awake. Grandad manages to resolve both problems by the simple act of getting out of bed! A gently humorous and completely charming book.
