Product Description

Synopsis

This unique volume brings together the key writings of Elizabeth Andrews, one of the most influential female political activists of the early 20th century and a key figure in Welsh women's political history. Elizabeth Andrews was born in 1882 and spent most of her life in the valleys of the Rhondda. She was a relentless and committed campaigner on the needs of working class women from these mining communities. She was a miner's daughter and so shared their lives, spoke their language and voiced their hopes and fears. In 1919, she was appointed the Labour Party Woman Organiser for Wales, a post that she held for 29 years. This volume includes political writings from her many and various campaigns on issues such as votes for women, improving living conditions, the welfare of children, peace and the plight of miners, as well as republishing memoirs of her life from early childhood to retirement, which were first published in 1957.
