5.0 out of 5 stars The Heavenly Norwegian Summer, 27 Jun 2002
By R. Linklater "stripey-dog" (Edinburgh, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This a beautiful, moving, funny AND informative book. I have been lucky enough to visit many of the places Andrew & Annabel travel through on their walk/cycle through Norway, and also the side-trip to Spitsbergen. I love the way he describes the light, its importance to the Norwegian people and the way he weaves it through the narrative. I took the book with me on a recent trip to Northern Norway during Arctic summer and it was perfect reading for the setting. I enjoyed his descriptions of fellow travellers and people he meets on the way, especially the way he dreams up nicknames for them and speculates on their life history. My husband & I have done this for many years & many of the stereotypes are familiar. I'm only slightly concerned as we recently met Andrew briefly on a trip to the Antarctic peninsula!

This is a fantastic book and a must-read for people who love Norway.
