5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal general reference and dive planning tool for region., 22 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This revised version for May 2001, proved far more relevant, user friendly and informative than the long out-dated 1995 version it replaces. As with most Lonely Planet productions, this clear and easy to read guide to the region's diving proved invaluable during our first visit to Sharm El Sheik in the Northern Red Sea. The book covered all the main dive sites on the Sinai peninsular (26 in Sharm alone) and gave a good insight to the site conditions we could expect, suggested dive routes to take and sights to look out for. Though the book was greeted with some initial skeptisism by our dive guides (they had been very un-impressed with the 1995 edition), even they were converted to referring to it by the end of the two week expedition. Our only criticism was the lack of underwater route/reef maps for each site, which can be purchased locally, but would have aided our dive plans and allowed less reliance on our guides if they had been included in the book. In all, as a general guide to plan your dives over a limited period it was ideal. The book was well thumbed by everyone on the boat ... and thoroughly read on our return flight to decide 'where to go next'! Good value and an invaluable pocket regional diving reference guide.

It's a good all round book - don't expect a great deal a detail or maps - but all round good book. There are other books available - that you can get when out there that have more details on certain areas.
