Parrots are colourful and conspicuous and capture the imagination of bird observers and visitors to Australia. This text explains how to distinguish one from another and presents some of the details of their lives and behaviour. Information is organized simply, with individual species entries describing key characteristics such as where they are found, food requirements and behavioural habits. Each entry is accompanied by colour photographs and, where appropriate, distribution maps. A key feature of the text is the "gee whiz" section which answers many of the most commonly asked questions about why parrots do what they do, revealing interesting facts and providing practical information for the amateur enthusiast. In addition, fact panels interspersed throughout highlight surprising snippets of information.

This book isn't meant to be a birder's field guide, but is an excellent introduction to the natural history and diversity of these iconic Australian birds. The photography is clear, and the information thoughtfully presented to create a book which is a good read, as well as a good guide.
Highly recommended, as are all other guides in this series.
