4.0 out of 5 stars Slightly marred by some quirky translation, 17 Aug 2004
This book -- fast-paced, sketchy and tense -- is an unusual take on the standard crime novel. The narrative gets going pretty smartly and continues to belt along with not much time wasted in excess description. But the translation leaves a little to be desired at times when the wrong piece of slang is chosen to describe an event or an action -- for instance you don't "heist" a car; and a "round" is one bullet not a spray. But pretty good for all that -- and it has to be said that you can smell the cheap perfume, the stink of burned rubber and
