This book contains a number of very interesting elements. The author is a dog owner so knows what she is talking about when she writes about dogs. Her competition knowledge also applies to this, especially to a very intriguing reolution of the problems which the ghost dog causes in a tourist village. The two girls in the modern part of the book are very well contrasted and drawn and children should be able to empathise with one or the other. She links the modern day story with that of a long ago Viking community so that the two stories overlap, the dog having come from the past to cause problems to those catering for the tourist industry. I would think that children would find it exciting and well worth reading. I did.
