A wonderfully written book. Explains all the background and history to the art of the pre-raphaelites, illuminating for me some of the theories which are often quoted but rarely explained. Gives an overview to what was happening in the rest of Europe with parallel philosophies and how they were implemented. This book explains the English 'take' on history with academic and religious traditions taken into account. Lovely quality paper and superb illustrations. Excellent value and I know I will refer to it again and again.
