4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but...., 20 Feb 2004
By Mr. Edward G. M. Michell (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is a really useful introduction to Military modelling, covering all the scales, injection and Resin Models, plus conversions, as well as all the kit you might need to go about making these models. The book itself is sizeable and good value for money, with decent photography and clear written descriptions.

However, some of the actual quality of modelmaking is not amazing, and also the author pretty much never uses weathering- maybe it is just me, but I think weathering is one of the most important elements in making realistic looking models, and for it to have such scant attention is a bit of an oversight in my opinon.

Nevertheless a good value and useful book

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Beginners Guide, 22 Mar 2006
By A Customer
If you are looking for a beginners guide to military vehicle modelling then this is it. The author takes you from very basic inexpensive kits through to more complex mixed media projects. The book is encouraging because it shows that even if you are inexperienced you can achieve good results with your first efforts. Once you have mastered the basics outlined in this book you can graduate to Tony Greenland's Panzer Modelling Master Class to immerse yourself in more complex construction and painting techniques.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter/instruction book, 20 Oct 2005
I originally bought Basic Military Vehicle Modelling (Compendium Modelling Manuals) by Jerry Scutts. It was 'okay' but I read it in an hour and put it back on Amazon the next day. Greenwood's book is much (MUCH) better if you are looking to know the basics and need explicit help on what tools etc to buy, and how to use them. If you don't need to know those things then you probably don't need either book but if you want a new hobby in military vehicle modeling then get this one!
