Product Description

Product Description

In this revised edition, Tony Miles and Trefor West, two successful barbel anglers, reveal many of the secrets of catching large barbel, especially double figure specimens. The book covers equipment, technique and tactics in detail, but it is more than an instruction manual: it seeks to convey the authors' excitement for the sport, and there are anecdotes and stories of success and failure at the bankside.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT ASSISTANCE TO ANY BARBEL ANGLER!, 31 May 2000
By jason@nnruk.com (London, England) - See all my reviews
With excellent discription and photography, Tony Miles & Trefor West take you through all the variations of fishing for barbel in the summer and winter. Their detail in locating barbel, tackle, wide variety of baits and weather conditions for barbel fishing is a must for someone who wants to catch their first barbel and gives great help and advice for the experienced angler who is looking for those double figure fighters.

They have several chapters on various rivers and fisheries like the Royalty on the Hampshire Avon, Dorset Stour, Kennet, Severn, Ouse, Cherwell, Wensum and others which help you to plan ahead for a trip to many of these places.

The pictures and photos show a great amount of double figure fish and help you to understand the best way of taking a photo so as to get a memorable picture of any barbel you catch.

I know that I can approach any river with a lot more confidence and excitement to catching barbel than before, because of the wide knowledge gained while I enjoyed reading this book.

I can only say one thing about "QUEST FOR BARBEL"

IT IS GREAT!

5.0 out of 5 stars King of the Coarse Fish, 3 Jul 2007
By J. Chippindale (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)

The barbel is pound for pound the hardest fighting fish we have in our rivers. I know that the barbel has found its way into some still waters but it is predominantly a river fish and the river is where it thrives best. once you have started to fish for barbel it becomes almost like an obsession and many go for this species to the exclusion of everything else.

This book covers just about every aspect of Barbel fishing. The type of tackle you will need to be successful, what bait to use, how to pre-bait a swim. Fishing techniques for winter and also for summer, how to pick out a swim that has a good chance of containing the elusive barbel. It is a book for all anglers both novice and expert and for anyone who wishes to get the best out of his barbel fishing is a must.

I know that many anglers have been lured away from the river to the man made still waters because of easy parking, good accessibility to the banks, platforms etc. and the opportunity to catch some reasonably big or if they are very lucky very big carp and there are times when I love to do it too. But if you live near a river that has reasonable stock of barbel give it a go

5.0 out of 5 stars First Class., 2 Dec 2005
By Mr. G. Flower "DJ G-Flo" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have been Barbel fishing for a few years now, and this book is the one that got me hooked. Its a very informative guide on baits, tactics and gear. It covers the Winter and summer, fishing in day and night. The stories at the back are also a nice addition to the book. These two authors are extremely knowledgable on the subject and you will find this a great guide.
