Product Description

Product Description

The variable-geometry Panavia Tornado is the result of a tri-national development programme between Britain, Germany and Italy, and has seen service during the Gulf War and the conflict over the Balkans. This volume tells the full story of the Tornado, which details the background and politics that led to the formation of Panavia; the development and testing of the aeroplane; and its subsequent service life in a variety of roles with its European and Saudi Arabian operators.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Panavia Tornado" - Informative yet unpolished, 3 Jun 1999
By A Customer
As this is the first of Andy Evans' books that I have had the pleasure to own, and as I begin initial officer training as a pilot in the RAF on 8/8/99, I am surprised (and rather let down) by the large number of spelling and punctuation errors in a book priced at nearly £.0, and this in a book which clearly aims to be an authority on the aircraft. Another small gripe is that there quite a few photos in black and white which very helpfully point out the colour schemes of aircraft...even though they are almost all in grayscale! Other than this, the content was stimulating and highly detailed, with the sortie descriptions being one of my favourite features. Striking a careful balance between significant fact and "spotter" trivia and pedantry, "Panavia Tornado" was in my opinion #.. well spent - but it's not "The Harrier Story" either.
