3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - mainly a list of recordings., 5 Jun 2001

(REAL NAME)
Given that: publication of this work was delayed quite considerably; and that I was more interested in reading a thorough evaluation of Dusty Springfield's body of work than one of the more scurrilous biographies of her private life, this book has turned out to be somewhat disappointing now it has finally appeared. There are few new insights into her work - the book directly quotes Dusty quite a lot from interviews and the like - if you listened to last year's Radio 2 series about her, and saw 'Full Circle' - a televised spoof interview with the irritating French and Saunders, then there is little that this book can tell you that you haven't already heard. Direct quotes can make for an interesting tome -witness the Barry Paris biography of Louise Brooks, and Kevin Brownlow's books on early cinema. But when you've heard them all before it makes for an unsurprising read. There are, however, some useful notes about her recordings in the back of the book. Apart from that, its a bit of a let-down. What a shame
