5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, informative and gives the right level of detail, 8 Nov 2001
By A Customer
When I first got pregnant I bought and borrowed pregnancy books - all aimed at women. My partner was just as excited as me about the pregnancy but couldn't find anything aimed at the "pregnant father" and felt a bit left out. Then we found this book.

A lot of the issues covered (How do you KNOW she's pregnant? What can you do to help? Feeling a bit left out? etc) are all covered and in a very readable, funny and easy to relate to way.

I managed to pinch it first for a read and found it to be extremely supportive of what the woman is going through (and despite another review on Amazon - not the least bit anti-women) and found it encouraged men to realise just how helpful they can be by looking after their tired out, snappy, pregnant partners. It was also reassuring for me to realise I was not the only woman who had changed both their personality and energy levels overnight and was needing to lean on my partner in this way.

It is not the most medically informative book (get the ones aimed at women for that)but does give men details of what their involvement and support can be at every stage and aims to try and explain what is happening whilst still being a good read for both partners as opposed to a biology lesson.

I'd recommend it for all expectant Dads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly fantastic and down to earth, 9 Oct 2001
By bigshazwalton@yahoo.co.uk (Cheshire, England) - See all my reviews
This book has had both of us in fits of laughter. Its down to earth and it doesnt go into lots of technical detail - if you want that buy Mirriam's books. We've both read those too but his gave us a light hearted view we could giggle over. If your partner isnt the type to want to know how many inches your uterus sticks above your pubic bone each week then buy him this book. If he does then go back to Mirriam. This book compliments the serious stuff really well - if blokes talked about pregnancy like women do they wouldnt need this - as it is they do, its like your best mate telling you the heartfelt good and bad over a pint. Every expectant father should have a copy

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough information, 25 Jan 2002
By A Customer
I was given this by my wife, who was looking for some way to get me to read a pregnancy book without having to wade through Miriam Stoppard or something similar. Unfortunately -- like others here -- I found it patronising, lacking in hard information and for the most part, not very funny (although it tries desperately hard to be so).

There's nothing wrong with the information that's there, it's just hard to find it in between the crude jokes and generalisations. If you're a lager-swilling, fag-smoking, sport-obsessed bloke who still thinks Loaded was the funniest thing ever published then this might appeal. And on the bright side, it's only a couple of hundred pages long and the print is large, so it's not too hard to get through quickly (so you can show your other half that you're making an effort).
