5.0 out of 5 stars A real gem - hysterical !, 8 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This book first appeared on Radio 4's 'A Book at Bedtime' back in 1974 read by the author himself. I don't know why I listened to it - it was the first and only time this 12 year listened to 'A Book at Bedtime'. But I was hooked on 'Twice Brightly'. I borrowed it from the local library immediately and read it in a couple of days. The story has stayed with me until this day and I was delighted when the book was finally re-published in 2000.

Classed as 'partly autobiographical' the book traces a young comic's first week in Variety Theatre in the 1950s. If you don't think this 'de rigour', think again. It's a giggle from start to finish. The old battleaxe landlady, the drunk, the jack-the-lad, the girlies - they're all in there. I just think it's one of the funniest books I've ever read and it's by ....Harry Seacombe? We all loved him but kinda thought him part of 'Old England' and nice to have around but not really our cup of tea. Well God bless him up there. I just wish he'd written more of the same.
