5.0 out of 5 stars A great A-Z of the former world champion boxer., 22 Sep 1999
By A Customer
A superb insight into the mind and life of an often complicated and misunderstood champion.

The book never tries to depict Holmes as anything but very human, warts and all, and the the tales of his run-ins with Don King are fascinating.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of boxings immortals!, 7 Sep 2005

Ive read this autobiography twice, and I have to say Holmes tells it as it is. Arguably one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, Holmes gives us a running commentry of his life back in the Easton ghetto, to his eventual rise to the Heavyweight crown, overcoming numerous obstacles on the way up. Holmes is sincere. Maybe too much so - and doesnt mince his words. This is a very smooth interesting read, and hard to put down. I also reccommend Joe Fraziers autobiography "Smokin' Joe", and Jake Lamottas (middleweight) story "Raging Bull" - and Ken Nortons book is also an excellent piece of work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book!, 2 Sep 2003
I found this book to be well worth the money and very interesting. When you keep reading chapter after chapter instead of putting it away the book must be doing something right! Larry mainly talks about his early life and leading up to the world title fight with Norton. It is great to see a fighter talk about how much he loves his family also.
